Brussels Airport sees an 11% increase in air cargo volumes for January
Brussels Airport recorded an 11% year-on-year increase in airfreight volumes this January, with total cargo volumes rising by 8%.
In January 2025, total cargo traffic reached 59,385 tonnes, marking an 8% growth compared to the same month in 2024. Air cargo volumes specifically saw an 11% increase, totaling 51,526 tonnes.
The airport reported that the full-freight segment expanded by nearly 4%, while belly cargo grew by 9%, driven in part by an uptick in passenger flights. Integrator services saw a significant 20% rise, whereas trucked cargo volumes declined by 9%.
Asia remains the top export destination, followed by Africa and North America, while imports primarily originate from Asia, Africa, and North America.
Additionally, the number of cargo flights rose by 14% compared to January 2024.
These growth figures come despite a nationwide strike on February 13, which led to widespread flight cancellations at both Brussels and Liege airports.
In 2024, Brussels Airport handled a total of 732,797 tonnes of cargo, reflecting a 5% increase from the previous year. The airport benefited from market expansion and welcomed four new cargo carriers: LATAM Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Farcargo, and Virgin Atlantic.
